The 75th annual Van Buren County Fair is scheduled to run Sept. 10-15 at the fairgrounds on Highway 16 East in Clinton. This year’s theme is Memories, Music and Magic.
The county fair was incorporated in 1937 and the first fair queen was Jean Roach (Eoff Brazell). Thirty-six years later, in 1973, her daughter Jan Eoff (Henderson) was crowned queen of the fair, and 16 years after that, in 1989, her granddaughter, Erika Eoff (Smith) was the queen. Another granddaughter, Monica Eoff (Lieblong), was the rodeo queen in 1993 and 1994. All the former fair and rodeo queens have been invited to return, according to fair manager Corinne Weatherly.
A new carnival provider — Clint Payne Funtime Shows — has been contracted. The Midway opens on Wednesday, Sept. 12.
Weatherly writes in the fair’s 24-page tab that the fairgrounds will features many improvements this year, including fresh paint, new sising, new doors and windows on the sound booth and a new sign at the front gate.
Registration for fair pageants begins Sept. 6. The fair parade through downtown Clinton will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9.
