Clubs Piecemakers

Piecemakers Quilting Club held its February meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 19. Linda LaDoux, club vice president, welcomed members and guests. Pamela Davis gave the treasurer’s report and Victoria Banks conducted the business meeting.

Ramona Johnson, Jan Savu and Neva Thompson provided information about the retreat coming up next week. Linda LaDoux presented the Block of the Month. About 20 members had their completed January block to show. Ida Holt gave an update on White Elephant donations and said donations can be dropped off at the Methodist church any time or at the Thrift Shop on Tuesdays. Indicate on the bag that it is for Piecemakers.

Linda LaDoux will lead the March Sit & Sew where we will be learning to piece a string quilt. Please bring four 6 ½ inch squares (this is your foundation fabric) and strings (fabric strips) in various sizes (strips from 1 ½ to 2 ¼ inches wide work best), along with your sewing machine and usual sewing supplies.

This month in Sew and Tell we saw: drawstring bags; mondo bags; rag quilt; scrappy rag quilt; Navajo Sampler quilt; strip quilt with braid border; Christmas silhouette quilt; stair step quilt; embroidered handkerchief; “Calm Sea” quilt; large duffle bag with matching small duffle, tote and drawstring bag; Friendship Circles quilt; Celtic Solstice quilt; “Snowflakes of Love” rag quilt; microwave bowl cozies; owl hand towels, and a Christmas strip quilt.

Sit and Sew was the Silly Goose Quilt led by Brenda Dunlap. The participants jumped right in and began chain-piecing the “silly goose” blocks. We look forward to seeing the finished quilts.

Piecemakers next meeting will be March 19, 2014, at 10 a.m. at the Methodist Church in Clinton. Anyone interested in quilting is welcome to attend.
