Choctaw artist has painting in juried show

By Joyce Hartmann

A watercolor painting by local artist Joyce Hartmann was accepted into the annual Mid-Southern Watercolorists Show juried by Jean K. Gill, AWS, NWS. Hartmann’s painting was among 40 chosen from several hundred entries in 12 states.

Hartmann’s painting was inspired by her photograph of three friends in identical rocking chairs at Mt. Eagle, near Fairfield Bay, during an art workshop there. Using the photo as a reference, she caricatured the strength of their character and their positive outlook. The busy background is suggestive of their active lives.

The exhibit can be viewed at the Butler Center Galleries, 401 President Clinton Ave., Little Rock from Aug. 9 until Oct. 26. A special reception honoring the artists will be held Aug. 9 beginning at 6 p.m.

The juror is an artist, juror and educator whose work has appeared in over 100 juried shows and in numerous art publications, including Splash and Artistic Touch. In 2010, she was one of 20 American artists included in the Zhujiajiao International Watercolour Biennial Exhibition in China, and her work has won awards in annual exhibitions in both the American and National Watercolor Societies.
