• The Van Buren County Health Department celebrates 100 Years of Public Health in conjunction with the open of its Breastfeeding Resource Center from 1-3 p.m. Friday, April 5, at the county Health Unit. Refreshments will be served and Dr. Gary Wheeler of the state Health Department will be the keynote speaker.

• The Van Buren County Cattlemen meeting will be Monday, April 8, at Western Sizzlin in Clinton. Eat at 6 p.m., meeting at 7 p.m. The sponsor this month is Aday Lime and Fertilizer.

• The third annual Alread Bluegrass Music Reunion begins at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at the gym in Alread. Performers are Eversong, the Nelsons, Wye Mountain, Arkansas Edition and the Walnut Grove Ramblers. For more information call Barnett Bruce at 745-8222 or Marge Koone at 745-6304.

• The Red Cross Blood Drive will be at Shirley High School from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. April 22, and at South Side High School from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. April 29.

• April is fine forgiveness month at the Van Buren County Library in Clinton. All past-due materials turned in during the month of April will be accepted and cleared with no fines.

• The Shirley High School Boosters will hold its annual golf tournament to benefit the Shirley High School Athletic Program on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Mountain Ranch Golf Club in Fairfield Bay. This four-person scramble has a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Entry fee includes green fees, prizes, raffle and lunch. To register contact Mountain Ranch Golf Club at 884-3400.

• Damascus Chapter 515 Order of the Eastern Star will serve breakfast form 7-9 a.m. Saturday, April 6, at the Doric Lodge 471 F&AM, Highway 65 and 285 West in Damascus. The menu includes scrambled eggs, biscuits, sausage, bacon and sausage gravy. Donations for the breakfast are used to benefit several charities. Everyone is welcome.

• The Hippe Recycle/E-Waste Education Center, 150 Garden Lane, Fairfield Bay, will hold its grand opening April 18, 2013. Tours and demonstrations of educational programs begin at 9:30 a.m. The grand opening and dedication of the center is set for 11 a.m. A free lunch of hot dogs, chips and drinks will be available at noon.
