KTHV, Channel 11, reporter and weather forecaster Meredith Mitchell Leal is the honorary walk chair for this year’s Greers Ferry Lake Area Alzheimer’s Arkansas Walk, set for Saturday, Sept. 14, in Fairfield Bay. This is one of seven Alzheimer’s Arkansas Walks held throughout the state each fall. All proceeds are for Arkansans and remain in Arkansas.
Festivities start at 7:30 a.m. at the Fairfield Bay Lions Club, 365 Dave Creek Parkway, with a pancake breakfast. Registration and sign-in begin at 8:30 a.m. in Fairfield Bay Woodland Mead Park, 522 Dave Creek Parkway. Participants who donate at least $25 each will receive a commemorative T-shirt while supplies last.
In the pavilion, Indian Rock Village staff will provide breakfast snacks, Clinton’s First Security Bank will be grilling hotdogs, and Roller-McNutt Funeral Homes will supply drinks.
At 9:30 a.m. at the Lions Amphitheater there will be introductions and comments followed by Leal’s lead from 10-11 a.m. in walking in support of family and friends dealing with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia. For those not walking, the “Memory Wall” display area is a gathering place to feature pictures and share stories while getting to know the Alzheimer’s Arkansas staff. They will be available to explain what the organization can do to help families and caregivers. The staff will be available before, during, and after the event.
Awards and prizes will be given out starting at 11 a.m. For more information contact George Kelly, walk chair at 884-6476.
