Pat Talley, the 2012-2013 president of the Arkansas Retired Teachers Association, will be the guest speaker at the Jan. 21 meeting of the Van Buren County Retired Teachers Association. The meeting is set for 11:30 a.m. at Western Sizzlin in Clinton. All certified and classified school retirees are eligible for membership in the association and the meeting is open to them along with any guests. Talley will talk about the benefits of ARTA membership and the importance of the association maintaining a good relationship with the Joint Legislative Committee on Retirement and Social Security and with the Arkansas Teacher Retirement System.
Farmers and landowners in Arkansas have until Jan. 17, 2014, to submit applications to receive financial assistance to implement conservation activities through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) for the 2014 program year. Applicants can sign up at their local USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service field service center. Individuals and other entities actively engaged in agricultural production are eligible to participate in EQIP. The EQIP deadline is for consideration in the local and state funding categories.
