The Dove House has opened a thrift store and outreach office at 373 Main St., Clinton. The store and office represent the second phase of preparing to re-open the shelter to women and children who are victims of domestic violence. Though the shelter has been closed for more than a year now, the need has remained. Volunteers are needed for the store and the office. Donations of clothing, books, housewares, crafts, jewelry and furniture are needed and welcomed. Hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday. On Oct. 23, there will be a volunteer orientation at the store; call 745-5657 for the time.
Plant Baptist Church on Highway 110 is holding a Harvest Social beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26. There will be Bible stories, hayrides, a bonfire, wienie roast and s’mores. Everyone is welcome.
The third annual winter coat/clothing giveaway is set for 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 17-19 at the Power House of Worship on Highway 65 South in Bee Branch. The Van Buren, Cleburne, Searcy, and Stone County Extension offices will be conducting training sessions to become a Master Gardener. You receive 40 hours of training for a fee and then in return give back 40 hours of community service through various horticulture projects.
